Our Christmas gift

Something pretty spectacular is happening in our lives, and I recently realized that I never put up a blog post about it.

Now, it's not that I want to (or should) blog about every little thing, but I really do want to try to chronicle the events in our lives as kind of a web record for us to look back on in the future and say "remember when..."

So... without further ado: We are adding to the Stanford family tree!

Our little addition's arrival date is set for December 22 of this year, and we couldn't be more excited!

Now some of you may think that we're a little crazy for what I'm about to say, but here goes: We're not going to find out what we're having.

I know, I know... some say that you should know baby gender because there's so much to plan, but we truly believe that this event is one of the few things that you can really be surprised about in life. That breathless moment when your new little miracle arrives and they are held up to the proclamation of "It's a boy!" or "It's a girl!"

Besides, I'm not a huge lover of the "pink for girls, blue for boys" stereotype, so my little one's light green room will serve perfectly for the task of sleeping, playing, and especially.. cuddling!

Will has affectionately named our baby "Sweetpea" for the time-being, and it has been so amazing! I am at 24 weeks, and it is so wonderful to finally feel the baby kicking and moving inside of me!

I cannot help but turn to the Lord in awe and praise of all that He has done and continues doing. Daily I am reminded of Psalm 139, a portion of which says:

"For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well!

My frame was not hidden from you when
I was made in the secret place;
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.

All the days ordained for me were written
in your book before one of them came to be!"

What a beautiful promise and a wonderful gift that the Lord knows each and every one of the days ordained for me. He ordered them before He created me, and I can rest in the knowledge that the One who created me and ordained all of my days is doing the very same thing for the small miracle daily growing inside of me.

With a full heart all I can do is echo the words 2 Corinthians 9:15: "Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!"

More updates (hopefully with some of our many ultrasound pictures) to come!

With love - Mary Frances
